‘Stamp Out Hunger’ This Saturday, May 10th

This Saturday, May 10, 2014, the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) joins forces with the Arkansas Foodbank, United Way, the AARP Foundation and others to help Stamp Out Hunger in Little Rock and throughout Arkansas.  Letter carriers will fan out across the nation to pick up donated food on doorsteps and beside mailboxes as they deliver the mail.

The Stamp Out Hunger food drive, held annually on the second Saturday in May, has become the nation’s largest single-day food drive benefitting Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization, and its network of food banks. Last year’s drive brought in 74 million pounds of food and provided assistance to the millions of Americans struggling to put food on the table.

Greater Little Rock Senior Giving Tree program to begin

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Home Instead Senior Care) - This season, holiday shoppers in Little Rock, North Little Rock, Jacksonville, Cabot and Searcy can give cheer to area seniors by participating in the Be a Santa to a Senior  program.

The program – run by the local Home Instead Senior Care office in partnership with area retailers, volunteers and members of the community – helps ensure isolated seniors receive gifts and companionship during the holidays. This can be a difficult time for many, especially those who live alone or have lost spouses and loved ones.

An estimated 27 percent of people 65 and older (10.8 million people) are widowed, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Further, the Administration on Aging reports about 28 percent (11.8 million) non-institutionalized people 65 and older live alone.
