LUPUS FOUNDATION OF ARKANSAS, INC.

LUPUS FOUNDATION OF ARKANSAS, INC.

The year 2014 is almost over and we have had a busy year.  Just a reminder about #GivingTuesday.  This year it falls on Tuesday, December 2, 2014.  Lupus patients, please help and support the cause of lupus.  We have worked since October 1993 so very hard as volunteers and I am happy to say that we have made many accomplishments.  People are finally taking this cruel complex disease of lupus serious.  Research in Little Rock was a big milestone.  Although the research did not work, we are praying that will not be the end of lupus research in Arkansas.  The first medication in over 50 years for lupus was approved  by FDA March 2009 and lupus has been around for many years.  It is difficult for me to believe that lupus patients only had aspirin for the excruiating pain they had to endure, but that is true.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (October 6, 2014)– The Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) has received notice that the state is one of 26 states and tribes awarded a Garrett Lee Smith State and Tribal Suicide Prevention Grant. The grant is managed by the Suicide Prevention Branch within the Center for Mental Health Services in the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. The funding is expected to total $3,680,000 over five years.

"Suicide is a heartbreaking public health issue that has affected far too many people in Arkansas," said Teresa Belew, Injury and Violence Prevention Section Chief at ADH.

"We are grateful for this grant and look forward to working with communities across the state to connect people with the help they need so we can reduce this growing problem."
