100.3 The Edge's Annual Scholarship Chili Cook-Off

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - The September Fund is seeking chili eaters for its 10th Annual “Guns n’ Hoses Chili Cook-Off."

Individuals or teams of up to five will compete in various categories for cash, trophies, bragging rights and other prizes on Saturday, October 31 at the Metroplex, 10800 Colonel Glenn Road in Little Rock. Cooking starts at 6 a.m., and the event opens to the public at 11 a.m.

Tasting spoons will be sold to the public with money raised from this event going towards the September Fund’s yearly scholarship awards. College-bound sons and daughters of Arkansas firemen, law enforcement officers and emergency medical technicians are eligible for the scholarships. 

Since the fund’s inception in 2003, it has raised and awarded over $100,000 in scholarships.

Comedian brings laughter to Maumelle assisted living facility

MAUMELLE, Ark. (KTHV) - Stand-up comedian Mark Klein is bringing his talents to an assisted living facility in Maumelle with a personal goal of performing for the severely underserved senior market. 

“My dad is in his 90s,” says Klein. “If he still enjoys comedy, I see no reason other folks his age won’t enjoy it as well.” 

Klein began his professional stand-up career during the comedy boom of the 80s. Since then, he’s gone on to conquer the cruise ship circuit and corporate comedy gigs. He has been profiled by CBS, GQ Magazine and Forbes. Now, Mark is setting out to perform for seniors in need of a good laugh. 

“Just because they are older, doesn't mean they have lost their need for laughter and love of comedy.”

Klein will perform at Elmcroft Senior Living located at 100 Bringler Drive in Maumelle on November 2. It will last from 6 p.m. till 8 p.m.

Pancake breakfast to benefit Jacksonville PD program

JACKSONVILLE, Ark. (KTHV) - The Jacksonville Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association is hosting a pancake breakfast fundraiser for the Jacksonville Police Department student resource officers program. 

On Saturday, October 17 from 8 a.m. till 10 p.m. citizens of Jacksonville and surrounding communities can join the Jacksonville Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association for a stack of pancakes. There will also be a silent auction and charitable donation drawing. 

All of this will be taking place at the Jacksonville Police Department located at 1400 Marshall Road. Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for kids under the age of 10.

Fifth skunk of the year in NLR tests positive for rabies

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (October 8, 2015) -- On Thursday, the Arkansas Department of Health confirmed that a skunk found in North Little Rock tested positive for the rabies virus.

The skunk was found on Wednesday at 4617 School Street. This marks the fifth skunk to test positive for the rabies virus in North Little Rock this year, all of which were in the eastern section of the city.

CADC to distribute USDA commodities in Pulaski County

PULASKI COUNTY, Ark. - Central Arkansas Development Council will distribute USDA Commodities Thursday, September 17 beginning at 9 a.m. in Pulaski County.  

The food items to be distributed may include Pink Salmon, Cranberry Sauce, Vegetable Soup, Spaghetti Sauce, Potato Flakes, Vegetarian Beans, Peanut Butter and Apple Juice.

Mobile Command Center offers free services to vets at Pulaski Tech

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ak. - The Regional Veteran Affairs Mobile Command Veteran Center will be at Pulaski Technical College's Main Campus from 8 am.to noon on Friday, August 21, to provide clinical, social and administrative services to veterans.

The unit will be parked by the Campus Center on the Main Campus, 3000 West Scenic Drive. More than 500 veterans attend PTC; however, services are available to all veterans.

The services are part of a three-day orientation for vets who will be attending PTC this fall or in the future.
