Walk to defeat ALS

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- ALS patients and their friends, families and supporters will Walk to Defeat ALS during the second annual event at Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock on Saturday, April 9, 2011. Registration is at 9 a.m., and the walk begins at 10 a.m.  A light lunch will be served, and music and games will be available throughout the event.

The 2011 Walk to Defeat ALS will raise funds for the Arkansas ALS Association as well as awareness about the disease and the Arkansans affected by it.  Businesses, organizations, families and individuals can sponsor walk teams, and the money raised will support the chapter’s operations as well as research; respite care; augmentative communication and transportation programs; support groups; equipment loan program; programs designed to provide information and support for caregivers and family members; and provide contact information for ALS clinics and physicians; and year-round advocacy or government relations by representing the needs of patients and families.

“People with ALS and their families come first in everything we do,” said Cliff Harris, honorary event chair, ALS family advocate and former Dallas Cowboy.  “Collaboration and partnership within the organization and with others who share our vision and values are the keys to sustained success in the fight against ALS, and financial strength enables us to accomplish these goals.”
