UAMS sets SeniorNet Oct. classes for ages 50+

LITTLE ROCK — Computer classes — Fundamentals for Beginners, Introduction to Computers, Tips and Tricks for iPad and iPhone and Exploring Windows 10  ­— and a special workshop — Exploring the Internet — will be taught in October for people ages 50 and older at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging.

Computer classes and workshops begin Oct. 5. They are:

·         Exploring the Internet, Oct. 5, 7 and 9, 10 a.m. to noon.

·         Tips and Tricks for the iPad and iPhone, Oct. 5, 7 and 9, 1-2:30 p.m.

·         Fundamentals for Beginners, Mondays and Wednesdays, Oct. 5-26, 1-3 p.m.

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. — The Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts 2015-16 Science and Arts Café lecture series will feature Henderson State University professor Dr. Travis Langley and several ASMSA faculty members.

The first lecture on Thursday, Oct. 8, features ASMSA French instructor Bryan Adams, who will present “French Crash Course Using the AIM Method.” AIM stands for Accelerative Integrated Methodology, which uses gestures, music, dance and theater to help students learn a new language. Adams’ lecture will help attendees learn some French using AIM during the session.

Jacksonville PD participating in Crime Free Housing program

JACKSONVILLE, Ark. - The Jacksonville Police Department is participating in the Crime Free Multi Housing and Crime Free Rental Property program, with the goal of keeping crime out of neighborhoods. 

Officials are encouraging property owners, managers and landlords in the community to participate in the opportunity to improve the town they live in. 

The Crime Free Multi Housing program was developed in 1992 in Mesa, Ariz. The Crime Free Multi-Housing Program has spread to nearly 2,000 cities in 44 U.S. states, five Canadian Provinces, Mexico, England, Finland, Japan, Russia, Malaysia, Nigeria, Afghanistan and Puerto Rico. The Crime Free Multi Housing program was designed to reduce crime, drugs and gangs on apartment properties.

Garland County hosts Zombie Fun Run 5k

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (KTHV) - United Way of Garland County is hosting a Zombie Fun Run 5K on October 31, 2015 at Cedar Glades Park located at 461 Wildcat Road.

The Fun Run is sponsored by Shop Oh Snap! Boutique, Bennett’s Auto Service, FBC Fitness and Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches. The route will involve a few walls to climb over, a log to jump over, zombies to avoid and a variety of elevations.

Early registration is $25 per person and ends on September 30, 2015. Late registration will end October 28, 2015 and is $30 per person. The check in will begin at 7 a.m. and the race will begin at 8:30 a.m. The first 250 who register will receive a goody bag and a t-shirt.

Prior to the race, the Hot Springs Beauty College will do zombie make-up for $5.00 per person. However, if an individual has their make-up done by the HSBC then they will be excluded from the costume contests.

Nestled on 100 acres of land on Stagecoach Road in Little Rock sits a castle fit for a queen or king and now, open to the public for events. The Castle on Stagecoach has been offering the venue for rentals suitable for all types of events including weddings, corporate parties, bridal showers, holiday dinners and so much more.  

The owners decided it was time to start a monthly event in an effort to allow anyone in the public to come enjoy a champagne brunch, tour of the grounds and enjoy live music.

"The food and experience is wonderful.  Everyone should experience this," said guest, Rance Golden.

CADC to distribute USDA commodities in Pulaski County

PULASKI COUNTY, Ark. - Central Arkansas Development Council will distribute USDA Commodities Thursday, September 17 beginning at 9 a.m. in Pulaski County.  

The food items to be distributed may include Pink Salmon, Cranberry Sauce, Vegetable Soup, Spaghetti Sauce, Potato Flakes, Vegetarian Beans, Peanut Butter and Apple Juice.

The show will be held in the Ballroom of the Statehouse Convention Center. The show committee is very excited about this year's show and is inviting everyone to come out to join in the fun. The show is free and open to the public. Entry fees are listed below.
