23-year-old killed in Sherwood car accident

SHERWOOD, Ark. (KTHV) – Family and friends held a candlelight vigil Wednesday night for a 23-year-old killed in a car accident while running from police.

The crash happened Tuesday night in Sherwood, when Cordero Hall tried to get away from officers after they attempted to stop him for reckless driving. Minutes later, police found Cordero's car wrapped around a tree on Country Club Road.

"I was on the couch watching TV, and I heard something that sounded like thunder. So, I sat there for a few minutes, and then I could see lights through my blinds," said neighbor Patti Lucarz, who was home at the time of the crash. "Kind of makes you think it could have been a house, he could have hit other cars. How many people could have died?"

Animal shelters at capacity over the holidays

SHERWOOD, ARK. (KTHV)- If you're thinking about getting a pet for the holidays, now is the perfect time.

Many shelters across the state are at or near capacity. In the last 10 days, 17 dogs and six cats have been turned in to the Sherwood Shelter, where it is already a packed house.

"We have a lot of animals right now. Probably about 30 that need homes for the holidays," said Robin Breaux, director of Animal Services for the city of Sherwood.

Dog after dog is filling up space in nearly all 31 kennels at the shelter.

"Right now, we are full, we are almost at maximum capacity," said Breaux.

Since October 1, the shelter has found homes for 112 animal, but they've also had 165 more brought in, and that number is expected to rise over the holidays.

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Pulaski Technical College Foundation will participate in #GivingTuesdayAR on Dec. 1, a day that focuses on holiday giving rather than holiday spending.

At PTC, more than 60 percent of students rely on financial aid through scholarships, grants and loans, while 90 percent work full- or part-time. With a somewhat small allocation from the state, tuition and fees must generate almost half of Pulaski Tech’s operating costs, whereas most colleges’ student fees account for a mere 20 percent of their budgets.
